How much harder is it to get pregnant after age
You asked a really good question, you want to know if it’s harder to get pregnant after the age of 35. Studies have shown that generally speaking it is a little bit harder to get pregnant as you get older but there is no defined age. The effects of age are more on a continuum. There isn’t necessarily a threshold where at the age of 35 things just all start falling apart. There are a lot of healthy women who do bear children later in life so it’s definitely a possibility. With that said it is a little bit harder. A recent study showed that 50% of women who were trying to conceive between the ages of 19 and 26 did get pregnant when they timed intercourse with ovulation. Contrast that with the group who were 35 to 39, only 30% of them got pregnant. Fertility does decrease with age but as you can see it is still very possible. I recommend to you, if you’re trying to get pregnant or wanting to have another baby, that you talk with your doctor. The most important thing is that you go into it being as healthy as possible because as you get older your risks for certain omplications are higher. For example, let’s say that you’re borderline Type II diabetic right now or a little bit overweight and have high blood pressure, your chances of getting gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes will be way higher during pregnancy. The doctor might advise you on weight loss and help you get your blood pressure and blood sugars under control before you get pregnant because it’s always best to go into pregnancy being as healthy as possible. That will increase your chances of having good outcomes. I hope the very best for you and if you have any other questions for me in the future, please feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
