Assigning house chores to your teenagers it’s a win-win situation. Not only does it free you from those duties but also teaches your teenager how to be responsible and to be more grateful. A lot of the times I see parents getting hung up on the WAY the teenager does the chore, the way they do the laundry, the way that they clean the room, that is not the same way that they would do it and this is the control that we have to give up in order to teach them a lesson. Give them guidance the first 2-3 times they do a new chore and then let THEM do it. You have to be OK with them doing things wrong or doing things not your way in order to achieve a greater purpose of teaching them responsibility and be grateful.

Now, if they don’t do at all, what they’re supposed to do that is when the consequences come in. Not when they didn’t do it your way.
