Raising TEENAGERS!
Is it just me or do other parents feel like they forget that parenting is literally 7 days a week, 365 days a year? Whew! Sometimes I feel like I know what I’m doing and other times, not so much!
As a mother of 7 children, with my oldest being 28, one thing I have learned is that I NEVER HAVE THIS PARENTING THING MASTERED! 🤦️
Each child comes with their own unique challenges and strengths.
However, what I have also found is that there are a lot of similarities in the way that teens want to be heard and loved and treated. ️
Even with our best intentions, we may fail to show up for our children when they really need us.
Here are some Parenting Tips I’ve Learned Over the Years
1. Emotional Dumping: If your teen is often venting to you, it’s because they trust you the most. They know you love them and won’t leave.
2. Brain Development: Teen brains are still growing, so expect some bad decisions. Being prepared for those bad decisions helps you stay calm.
3. Modern Challenges: Today’s teens face regular issues plus the pressures of social media, fake influencers, FOMO, and bullying. Understanding this helps us show more compassion.
4. Seeking Approval: No matter how they act, teens crave love and approval. Even when it’s tough, showing up for them makes a big difference.
5. It Will Get Better: Whatever stage you are in right now, take comfort in knowing that it will not be like this forever. Stay strong, mama!
