Can we travel during pregnancy? 🤰

This is frequently asked by OPD patients.

Let’s discuss. ️

First, when can we travel during pregnancy? Safe periods are from 3 months to 7 months, that is 12 to 28 weeks. If you ask whether you can travel before or after that, we cannot advise you medically. You should take precautions while traveling. In the first 3 months, the risk of miscarriage increases. After that, the chances of premature delivery increase. So, traveling should be safe during the second trimester. ️

Second, what travel modes are best?

Train: Because you can extend your legs when you have a berth seat, and toilet facilities are available.

Air travel: When you are flying, book an aisle seat to access the washroom easily, especially during long flights. ️

Car travel: There won’t be train or flight facilities for all places. In that case, you can prefer car travel. Tell your driver to drive slowly.

Bus travel: This is a bit risky because the roads can be bumpy. So, book a sleeper bus if train or flight options are unavailable.

Lastly, you should definitely take your medical records with you. Suppose you have an emergency or if you want to see a doctor while away from home, it is important to have your medical history with you. Always decide on a medical facility or a doctor before starting your journey.
