Parenting is one of the biggest and most challenging responsibilities a person can take on in their lifetime.
And trying to raise godly children in today’s society is even harder!
But, the Bible gives fundamental principles and tips for those who want to raise godly children!
So in this video, we’ll explain 5 Biblical keys for Christian Parenthood.
And please, don’t just believe us, but prove this for yourself and look up these verses in your own Bible!
Okay, let’s get started…
Key #1 … For raising godly children, parents should strive to diligently…
Teach God’s way of life all the time.
After giving His laws and describing His way of life to His people, God said, “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7).
In other words, all the time!
“Diligently” gives the sense that this should be done with steady, energetic, and persistent effort.
God wants parents to always be aware of opportunities that lend themselves to teaching about His way of life.
This means looking for examples and ways to teach in the morning, while at home, while away from home, and at night.
Christian parents should include God’s word and incorporate Biblical instructions into daily discussions and activities throughout the day.
This is a very simple instruction, but one of the most important because God’s word outlines what is right and wrong. Children need to be taught God’s moral standards.
Proverbs 20:11 explains, “Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether what he does is pure and right.”
Proverbs 22:6 adds, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
These Scriptures, among others, show that there is such a thing as right and wrong as defined by God.
There are “right” actions, attitudes, and thoughts and there are wrong actions, attitudes, and thoughts.
And parents need to teach this to their children with careful and consistent effort.
They should diligently teach them all the time!
#2 – Parents should… Train their children to obey their mother and father.
Ephesians 6:1 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”
Colossians 3:20 repeats this principle, “Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.”
Notice it says… children should obey “in all things.”
The word “obey” isn’t the most popular in recent times regarding the raising of children, but the Bible is clear that children should obey their parents.
And it is the parent’s responsibility to train their children in this important principle.
When the Apostle Paul prophesied about the conditions of the end of the age, in 2 Timothy 3:1 he wrote, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be… disobedient to parents…. And from such people turn away!”(2 Timothy 3:1-5)
Untrained, disobedient, and rebellious children are a contributing factor to the many problems in society today.
Therefore, Christian parents need to work with their children so that they do not fall into this destructive behavior.
This simple, yet vital principle benefits both individual families and society at large. But it also serves as an important “stepping stone” for children because it helps them learn to obey God, their heavenly Father.
Children who learn to submit to their earthly parents, will have a better chance at learning to submit to their heavenly Parent as they get older.
Now, Key #3 — This goes hand in hand with Key #2. Parents should… Train children to honor their father and mother.
One of God’s 10 Commandments is to, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12)
Ephesians 6:1-3 also says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
The Ten Commandments act as a bedrock for God’s way of life. The first 4 teach us how to have a proper relationship with God, and the last 6 teach us how to have a proper relationship with one another. Interestingly, this 5th Commandment acts as a bridge between our relationship with God and our relationships with others. Learning to honor our father and mother teaches us how to honor our heavenly Father and have the right relationship with Him.
