Can we just start with RAISING TEENAGERS IS HARD!

In this episode of “Black Coffee with a Side of Candor” we boldly explore the unique challenges and rewards of raising young Black women during their teenage years.

This is a no holds barred conversation!

We begin by acknowledging the blessings of raising young Black women, highlighting their resilience, as well as their unique creativity and perspective on the world.

We talk about the burdens of navigating societal and cultural pressures and issues, and the impact they can have on a young Black woman’s mental health and self-esteem.

We address the issue of competing with the images of women portrayed in social media and popular music.

We discuss the importance of creating an open dialogue with young Black women about the media they consume, and the need to teach them critical thinking skills to decipher harmful messaging.

And we share some of our coping strategies as parents of young Black women, including building supportive communities, prioritizing self-care, and cultivating self-love and acceptance.
