Anyone traveling for the summer? Here are some quick reminders for foster parents as you prep and get on the road!

A few bonus tips:
– Ask for permission early! Often there are several layers of approval needed: parent, social worker, judge. If you are traveling internationally, there will likely be extra documents needed (like a passport) so plan ahead.
– Include the child in making the plans to make sure they are comfortable and want to go. If they don’t, explain the various options to stay home or rethink the plans. (Please try your very very best to not leave a foster child home while you travel to a place they want to go. I recognize it isn’t always possible but please try!)
– When making plans, think about how you can keep the routine as consistent as possible. Routine + structure = feeling safe and secure
– If booking an Air Bnb make sure check for safety measures like a fence around the pool.
– Be mindful of new people around the child and how they feel. Make sure they have an out or a place to take space when needed.
