I’m pregnant, but can’t take a break at work until
You mentioned that you’re 8 to 9 weeks along, and first of all, I want to congratulate you on that. That’s so exciting for you and your family! But you also mentioned that you work 8 hour shifts, and your manager isn’t wanting you to take a break until 7 hours into your 8 hour shift. You’re wondering if all of this hard work is okay for the baby. The answer is yes it should be, especially if you were doing all of this work prior to getting pregnant. Your body is used to doing these things, and so once you get pregnant, you can usually continue on with activities you did before. If you’re used to lifting things and doing moderately intense activities during the day, then you should be okay to continue with it. However, because you’re pregnant, you’re going to become tired more quickly, and it’s important to eat regularly, and drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. So if you’re not able to do this because your break is 7 hours into your 8 hour shift, it would be best to have a conversation with your manager and see if you can come to some kind of compromise where you’re able to at least eat a snack and get a drink of water and rest for a few minutes here and there before you have your big break at the end of your shift.
If at any time you’re working, and you feel like you’re cramping a little bit, stop what you’re doing, drink a glass of water and see what happens. And if over the next 30 minutes the pain doesn’t go away, or it gets worse, then it would be best to call your doctor. And if at any time you start bleeding or spotting, stop what you’re doing and call your doctor. I hope that things go well for you, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.
