Character Building
The Spoiled Child 6 Positive Parenting Solutions

Some loving parents do their kids’ chores and end up feeling like doormats.

Some spoiled kids use temper tantrums to get what they want.

Some pampered kids complain and get their parents to do their homework.

Next, you’ll find 6 practical parenting tips to start using today to unspoil your kids.

1. Avoid lecturing, yelling, and pleading. They make parents look and sound weak.
2. Be kind and firm, consistent and stable. It’s best for you and your child.
3. Walk away from your child’s selfish words. Avoid being sucked into a fight because you’ll lose.
4. Keep your child’s allowance if he doesn’t complete his chores or does them poorly.
5. Stop doing extra deeds like his laundry when he’s disrespectful.
6. Give honest specific compliments when your children care about others and do their fair share.

The Takers
Jean Tracy, MSS

“I don’t do chores!” yelled pampered Jake.
Away he snuck like a sneaky snake.
“My spoiled son, you’re so unfair.”
His mother cried. Jake wasn’t there.

Zoe’s tantrums worked at stores and shops.
Her father wanted it to stop.
“She screams for toys and I give in.”
Zoe’s father thought, “I never win.”

“I’m tired and worn,” said Michael’s mom.
“Enforcing rules takes way too long.”
“Yes, Michael Dear, go out to play.
I’ll do your homework for today.”

They played together in the ‘hood.’
They’d cheat and whine which wasn’t good.
They wouldn’t help put toys away.
The other kids yelled, “You can’t play!”

The friends stored the balls and bases,
Then yelled in those spoiled faces,
“Zoe, Jake, and Mike, you lazy fakers,
You don’t give. You’re all just takers.”

The lazy kids were feeling blue.
Here’s what each said and meant it too:
“It’s no fun to be a faker.
I’ll be a giver not a taker.”
